Personal Training & Leisure Management
This specialist course is for qualified fitness instructors who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills and work as a personal trainer with clients on a one to one basis and also learn the necessary skills for Leisure Facility Supervisory Management. Personal Trainers can establish their own business or work in a commercial fitness facility providing personal training.
The course content is aimed at supervisory /duty management level and provides students with teaching and instruction qualifications as Personal Trainers and Swim Teachers. Students must hold the Exercise and Health Fitness (CEHF) or an approved equivalent fitness instructor qualification at QQI Level 5 to complete this course.
Graduates receive the QQI Level 6 Award in Leisure Facility Supervisory Management and Personal Training Specialist Module accredited by the University of Limerick.

1 year full time
QQI Level 5 award in Sport and Recreation or equivalent qualifications or experience and a recognised Fitness Instructor qualification.
The following subjects may be offered:
- Safety Management
The purpose of this subject is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to design safety and risk management strategies, supervise their implementation and to evaluate workplace safety policies.
- Leisure Facility Operations
This area of study equips the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to safely and effectively manage the day to day operations of a leisure facility.
- Customer Service
This subject will equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to direct quality customer service within a work, social or voluntary environment, independently and/or in a supervisory capacity.
- Sports Nutrition
This subject involves study of the principles and practice of managing nutrition for athletes and those involved in fitness and exercise.
- Business Management
The purpose of this subject is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the principles and practice of management within the business environment and to enable the learner to develop management skills to work independently or within a supervisory capacity.
- Marketing Management
This subject will enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to analyse, evaluate and critically apply marketing management principles and practice to a range of contexts.
- Work Experience
The purpose of this subject is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to participate in the workplace for a limited time, carrying out work-related tasks autonomously and/or in a supervisory capacity.
- Personal Trainer
Applied anatomy, physiology & kinesiology, client screening and fitness assessment, programming, communication skills, administrative duties and legal responsibilities of the Personal Trainer.
- Applying the Principles of Nutrition to a Physical Activity Programme (ITEC Unit 412)
Learn to apply the theory of nutrition in designing a nutrition plan for a number of clients.
Supervisor, Duty manager, Lifeguard, Fitness instructor, Personal Trainer, Swimming Teacher, Pool Plant Operator.
390 CAO points can be earned by students on successful completion of this course.

- Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness (CEHF) accredited by the University of Limerick
Conversion Course is expected to be offered to students who meet specific criteria. The CEHF graduate predominantly gains employment as a group fitness instructor and /or as a gym instructor in gyms and fitness clubs, some of which are hotel based or in community settings.
