Personal Training & Leisure Management
This specialist course is for qualified fitness instructors who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills and work as a personal trainer with clients on a one to one basis. Personal Trainers can establish their own business or work in a commercial fitness facility providing personal training. The course content is aimed at supervisory /duty management level and provides students with teaching and instruction qualifications as Personal Trainers, swimming and technical areas. Students must hold the Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness (CEHF) or an approved equivalent fitness instructor qualification at level 6.
Graduates receive QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Leisure Facility Supervisory Management and Personal Training Specialist Module accredited by the University of Limerick.

QQI Level 5 award in Sport and Recreation or equivalent qualifications or experience and a recognised Fitness Instructor qualification.
The following subjects may be offered:
- Safety Management
The purpose of this subject is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to design safety and risk management strategies, supervise their implementation and to evaluate workplace safety policies.
- Leisure Facility Operations
This area of study equips the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to safely and effectively manage the day to day operations of a leisure facility.
- Customer Service
This subject will equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to direct quality customer service within a work, social or voluntary environment, independently and/or in a supervisory capacity.
- Sports Nutrition
This subject involves study of the principles and practice of managing nutrition for athletes and those involved in fitness and exercise.
- Business Management
The purpose of this subject is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the principles and practice of management within the business environment and to enable the learner to develop management skills to work independently or within a supervisory capacity.
- Marketing Management
This subject will enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to analyse, evaluate and critically apply marketing management principles and practice to a range of contexts.
- Deep Water Pool Lifeguard
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to effectively, efficiently and safely lifeguard in deep water pool more than 1.5m independently and or in a supervisory capacity.
- Work Experience
The purpose of this subject is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to participate in the workplace for a limited time, carrying out work-related tasks autonomously and/or in a supervisory capacity.
- Personal Trainer
Applied anatomy, physiology & kinesiology, client screening and fitness assessment, programming, communication skills, administrative duties and legal responsibilities of the Personal Trainer.
- Applying the Principles of Nutrition to a Physical Activity Programme (ITEC Unit 412)
Learn to apply the theory of nutrition in designing a nutrition plan for a number of clients.
- Swim Teachers (Irish Water Safety)
Supervisor, Duty manager, Lifeguard, Fitness instructor, Personal Trainer, Swimming Teacher, Pool Plant Operator.
390 CAO points can be earned by students on successful completion of this course.

Students can avail of the following add on options during the year at an additional cost:
- IWS National Pool Lifeguard
This course will qualify students to assist with the delivery of swimming classes
The NPLQ is the accepted International Industry standard bearer in many countries for Pool Lifeguarding around the World (approx. cost €390)
- Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness (CEHF) accredited by the University of Limerick
Conversion Course is expected to be offered to students who meet specific criteria. The CEHF graduate predominantly gains employment as a group fitness instructor and /or as a gym instructor in gyms and fitness clubs, some of which are hotel based or in community settings.
- National Swimming and Spa Pool Operators Certificate.
Students may avail of this certification, which qualifies them to operate pools and spa pools in a range of public and private facilities.
- IWS Aquatics for People with Disabilities
This course will qualify students to assist people with disabilities in the aquatic environment.
