CSN College Cork Celebrates Huge Honour as a world-class judging panel declare ‘Best Further Education Provider’ at the 2019 Education Awards

It’s safe to say that the weekend is off to a flying start for the dedicated staff of CSN College, who were last night (Thursday 21st February) announced as the winners of the ‘Best Further Education Provider’ trophy at The Education Awards 2019.  Representatives of CSN, along with members of the Cork Education and Training Board (CETB), who are patrons of the college, were thrilled to accept the prestigious award.

The black-tie ceremony, which was held in the Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin, saw CSN fend off notable competition from nine other further education providers in Ireland, namely Barrow Training & Consultancy; City Colleges Group; CMIT; Cork College of Commerce; DBS; Drogheda Institute of Further Education; Limerick College of Further Education; Pitman Training Ireland; and The College of Progressive Education. The Cork College of Commerce and St John’s Central College, who are also run by the CETB, were finalists on the night nominated in a number of categories.

With a focus on student experience, industry links and college progressions, CSN College provides learners with a path to Higher Education or employment. At CSN College, management, course coordinators and teaching staff work together to create a positive learning environment that is supportive and dynamic, allowing all students to thrive and follow their dreams. This ethos was recognised last week, with the college now ranked ‘Best Further Education Provider’ for the year ahead.

Speaking following their big win, Deirdre O’Sullivan, Acting Principal of CSN College, said: “We’re over the moon – what a great feeling is it to be named as the crème de la crème in such a high-calibre category. We’re so proud of our College and how it positively impacts on and changes peoples’ lives; whether it be a school-leaver in search of their future path or a mature student looking for a new challenge. CSN’s success is down to a collaborative effort between management, teachers, support staff and students, so we share this award with everyone who has played a part in making CSN College shine and stand out from the competition.”

Providing first-hand testimonials, students and graduates of CSN College have also revealed how their learning experience at the college helped them to get them what they wanted….

Siobhan Clifford, a student of the Radio Broadcasting course at CSN said:  “I have had the best two years of my life and would 100 percent recommend CSN.  Not only do you get to work with extremely creative people, but the skill set you leave with is absolutely incredible. I found this course gave me a newfound confidence and I feel I am ready to start my career in radio.”

Mary Taylor, a graduate of the Social Studies course who is now studying Social Care at CIT said:  “Before I had started at CSN, I didn’t have much direction. I had finished my Leaving Cert badly as I had issues at secondary school. I didn’t have any plans for my future and ended up not knowing what to do. I chose the Social Studies course as I enjoyed working with people. Despite this, I didn’t know how to make this a feasible route for my future. However, once I started the course, the teachers gave me lots of guidance to assist me to get where I wanted. The course expanded my views by opening my eyes to new ways of thinking. The endless possibilities helped me focus and make goals.”

Rory Drinan, a student of Furniture Design & Making at CSN said: “This course promotes an in-depth understanding of design thinking and manufacturing processes. I have considerably broadened my knowledge of design and workshop processes and have now found employment in an area where my new skills are utilised and built upon. I would strongly recommend the course to anyone interested in exploring their creativity through a wide range of materials and processes.”
